The instruction

7-iron at the flag, and commit to it. Right of the green costs you a bunker shot. Left costs you the hole.

Plan of the hole to scale, tee to green. The two red circles are the plan: where to land the drive, and where to land the approach. The dashed ellipse behind the approach target is a generic 14-handicapper's real dispersion pattern for a 7-iron from the fairway (±2σ, per section 7 of the Caddie Brain engine) — not a guess, the same maths that runs the numeric engine, shown so you can see why the target sits where it does rather than dead on the pin. Base geometry: OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL 1.0, rescaled to the club's own published yardage — see confidence note below.
Off the tee
Favour the right-centre of the fairway. The hole bends hard left through the landing area, and the bunker guarding the inside of that corner sits at roughly 300 yards — well beyond a 14-handicapper's carry, so it is not really in play today. The shortcut belongs to longer hitters; you are not giving anything up by staying right.
Expect
A drive to around 210–230y leaves roughly 145–150 yards in — a full 7-iron for this profile.
Approach
7-iron, start it at the flag. The green runs about 40 yards deep, so “at the flag” is doing real work here — there is room to be long or short and still be putting.
The miss that matters
Right is fine, left is not. The water sits flush against the green’s left edge with no rough to catch a pulled shot. The bunkers on the right are a stroke lost, not a stroke-and-distance penalty — that asymmetry is the entire reason the target sits right of centre rather than dead on the pin.
Ignore
The fairway bunker at the dogleg corner. At this player’s numbers, the tee shot lands well short of it.
Why
A 7-iron from 150y for a 14-handicapper disperses about ±19 yards laterally (2σ) against a green that is only 21 yards wide. There is no genuinely fat side — the pattern is nearly as wide as the target. That is exactly why the aim point, not the club, is the decision that earns its place on this page.
Read the confidence line below before trusting a yard of this. One number here is real. The rest is a reasonable, checkable placeholder — precisely the distinction section 5 of the dossier calls the whole business on.
